AEO READINESS AUDIT

What the readiness audit checks

Five areas that help AI systems find, understand, and use your content.

01

Crawling & indexing

Can AI access your pages?

Before a page can be used as a source, crawlers need to find and read it. This area checks for access barriers and indexing instructions, then looks at the content available in the original HTML without running JavaScript.

  • AI crawler access and firewall responses
  • robots.txt rules
  • Indexability and noindex directives
  • XML sitemap availability
  • Content available without JavaScript
02

Structured data

Can AI understand your content?

Machine-readable information adds context to what visitors see on a page. This area examines markup and metadata that describe your content and business. It also checks for an llms.txt file that provides a text-based overview of your site and links to key content.

  • Schema markup and JSON-LD validity
  • Structured data types describing the page
  • Open Graph titles and descriptions
  • llms.txt availability
03

E-E-A-T

Is your expertise clear?

Experience, expertise, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness start with making it clear who is behind your content. This area looks for visible identity and credibility signals. It identifies evidence to review, rather than certifying a business or assigning an official E-E-A-T rating.

  • Business identity and contact information
  • Name, address & phone match your Google Business Profile
  • About pages explaining the organization
  • Team and author pages
  • Visible credentials and experience
  • Reviews available to crawlers
04

Answer-ready content

Can AI quote a useful answer?

Useful answers are easier to locate when each section addresses a clear topic. This area checks how your content is organized, from descriptive headings to short explanations and structured lists. These checks highlight opportunities to improve clarity without promising an AI citation.

  • Clear, descriptive headings
  • Question-style headings and FAQs
  • Lists that break down steps or key points
  • Tables that organize comparable information
  • Concise paragraphs with direct answers
05

Site performance

Is your site fast and reliable?

A reliable site gives visitors a smoother experience and helps crawlers retrieve consistent pages. This area reviews technical basics, page-level metadata, and mobile performance. The findings help you prioritize issues such as broken responses, oversized images, and slow loading.

  • HTTPS, redirects, and response status
  • Page titles, descriptions, and canonical URLs
  • Heading structure and mobile viewport settings
  • Image alt text and oversized images
  • Mobile page speed and Core Web Vitals

AEO readiness signals are technical and editorial proxies—not a prediction of rankings, AI mentions, or citations.

AI VISIBILITY AUDIT

See where AI assistants mention you, cite you, or send buyers to a competitor.

The AI Visibility Audit asks the questions your buyers ask, on the AI platforms they use, and turns every answer into one clear dashboard.

  3. Read the dashboard

See the visibility score, share of voice, competitor rank, best position, cited sources, and how AI describes the brand.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about AEO readiness and AI visibility audits

What is an AEO readiness audit?

An AEO (answer engine optimization) readiness audit checks whether AI systems such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews can reach, read, and trust a website. The My Audit Lab AEO Readiness Audit reads every main menu page, up to 20 pages, and scores five pillars: discovery and indexability, contextual intelligence, identity and trust signals, generative citation potential, and platform stability.

What does the AI Visibility Audit measure?

The AI Visibility Audit measures whether AI assistants mention, recommend, and cite a business when buyers ask real questions. It asks 8 standard prompts (5 unbranded, one per service, and 3 branded) on five AI platforms and reports a visibility score out of 10, share of voice, competitor rank, best position, and the sources AI cites.

Which AI platforms does the AI Visibility Audit cover?

The AI Visibility Audit covers five AI platforms: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and Google AI Overviews. Each of the 23 standard prompts (20 asking for recommendations without naming the business, 3 about the business by name) is asked on every platform, so one run captures up to 115 answers that can be compared side by side.

How is the AEO readiness score calculated?

The AEO readiness score is the average of five pillar scores, each from 0 to 100. Within a pillar, every scored check counts equally: a pass earns full credit, a warning earns one third, and a fail earns none. Advisory checks are reported but not scored, so the score reflects only rules the site can act on.

How long does an AEO readiness audit take?

An AEO readiness audit usually takes about 30 seconds and can take up to a minute when Google PageSpeed Insights is measuring mobile speed. Each completed audit is saved automatically to the private workspace, so the report can be reopened later without running the scan again.

Why are AI Visibility answers captured by hand?

AI Visibility answers are captured by hand so the results show what a real buyer sees in each AI platform, including its sources and AI Overviews. Answers from an API often differ from the consumer apps, so manual capture in a fresh, signed-out session gives a more faithful picture of visibility.

What is in the 90-day roadmap PDF?

The 90-day roadmap PDF is a Redfern Media–branded implementation plan built from the audit. It includes the client details, an executive summary, the audit findings mapped to three phases over 13 weeks, weekly tasks with deliverables and success measures, the pages audited, and the research sources behind each step.

Does a high score guarantee AI citations or rankings?

No. A high AEO readiness score means a website removes technical and content barriers that keep AI systems from using it, but no audit can guarantee rankings, AI mentions, or citations. Each AI platform decides what to cite, so the AI Visibility Audit is the way to measure actual results over time.
